North Union FFA Member wins State FFA Proficiency Award By Cierra Mathys North Union FFA Reporter The State FFA Proficiency award program is designed to award FFA members with a chance to gain recognition of their hard work and dedication for the Supervised Agricultural Experience projects. The members fill out an application and have an extensive interview process to determine the State winner. The winners were announced at the recent State FFA convention in Columbus, Ohio May 5th, 6th and 7th. There are 49 different Proficiency areas for members to apply and gain recognition.
Jennifer McNamee, the daughter of Scott and Lisa McNamee, won the Diversified Livestock Proficiency. Jennifer had a SAE project of raising breeding beef cows and breeding sows. Jennifer has expanded her 5 sows and 3 cows to her current numbers of 9 sows and 8 cows. Jennifer has been involved in the day to day operations of the feeding and care of the swine nursery and keeping records of the sows and beef animals. Jennifer’s work includes daily nutrition and care of sows, repair and maintenance projects and observation and care of sick animals.
In the FFA, Jennifer served as Vice President and earned the Ohio FFA Degree, and was active in the General Livestock, Greenhand Quiz and Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Events. She participated in the Made for Excellence program, Washington Leadership Conference, the State FFA convention, petting zoo, FFA camp, State FFA delegate, and the National FFA Convention. In related FFA activities, she was active in helping at the Ohio Beef Expo, United Way community care day, and several invitational judging contests.
Jennifer will now forward her application to the National FFA evaluation were she will compete against members from across the country to determine the four finalists to be interviewed at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. |
