North Union FFA Responds To Tragedy

By Cierra Mathys
North Union FFA Reporter

The hurricane in Louisiana was tragic for many people this year. The North Union FFA wanted to do something to raise money to help with hurricane relief. After going over the options we decided to have a kiss a pig contest. This way we could be raising money for hurricane victims and get a good laugh at the same time. If we raised nine hundred dollars Principal Mr. Eric Holman, Vice Principal Mrs. Kathy McFarland, and teachers Ms. Amy Mosier, and Mr. Greg White would all have to kiss a pig in front of the entire student body. There were several jars in which you could donate placed throughout the school. Within in the chapter itself, the FFA challenged the members with a penny war. The senior class met the challenge and brought in over 7000 pennies. There also were a few members at some basketball games taking donations. The chapter managed to raise over one-thousand dollars to give towards the hurricane relief. All of the proceeds will go to Erath FFA chapter in Louisiana who lost almost everything in hurricane Katrina. They will be using our contributions to buy new shop equipment or FFA supplies for the chapter. The North Union FFA chapter would like to thank everyone in the community who contributed to the hurricane relief effort.
