North Union FFA Tractor Troubleshooting Team Wins District Six Contest This Career Development Event is an educational activity designed as a practical method for teaching students to recognize malfunctions of gasoline or diesel engines and to eliminate problems. The skills that agriculture education students learn in tractor troubleshooting make them better tractor and equipment operators by giving them practical experience in identifying and correcting engine malfunctions. Two North Union FFA members competed in the District Six FFA Tractor Troubleshooting Contest on Saturday February 25th at the John Deere Training Facility in Marysville. The team of Luke Brill and Mike Fitzpatrick placed first. The team must work together to figure out two problems or bugs with each tractor. The team has six stations of tractors and has 30 minutes at each tractor to solve the problems. The judges will install bugs at each station and those could range from battery cable disconnected to not starting at all. The team has to come up with a step by step mental approach to solve the problems. Many times the “bugs” are in relationship to each other and it is a must for the team to work together. The team now will advance to the State Contest March 9th and 10th at the University of Northwestern Ohio. There they will compete against the winners of the 9 other FFA Districts in Ohio. Northwestern is offering scholarships from $5000 to $1000 for each of the top individuals and teams. We would like to thank the Parrott Implement, Mr. Bruce Davis, Mr. Tim Coulson, and Mr. Bill Keck for helping train the team. |
