Four North Union FFA Members Receive State FFA Degrees By Holly Sheets North Union FFA Reporter Four FFA members received the coveted State FFA Degree at the 78th 2006 State FFA convention. The State FFA degree is give only to the top two percent of the over 23,000 Ohio FFA members. The following members received their degrees based on the 30 mandated criteria’s; some of these are they must have earned $3000 gross earnings, competed in various FFA Career Development Event’s, and attended or have been involved both FFA and school activities.
Luke Brill, son of Gary and Rebecca Brill, had Supervised Agricultural Experience projects that included raising market steers, market hogs, and job placement at Brill family Farms. In the FFA, Luke was involved in the agronomy contests, rural soils contests, junior fair board and attended both national and state FFA conventions. Luke was part of the State Winning agronomy team and the 4th place National Agronomy Team. Luke has also been part of the District winning Tractor Trouble shooting team which placed 2nd in the State. He has competed in the State Farm Management test in which he has placed in the top ten individuals twice. He has been the FFA Sentinel and currently is the North Union FFA Treasurer.
Adam Conrad, son of Bob and Karen Conrad, had SAE’s that included market hogs and job placement hours at Parrott Implement and Wildlife management. In FFA, he was active in the Wildlife Management CDE, Agronomy CDE, Jr. Fair board, and rural soil judging. He has attended both the State and National FFA conventions. Adam also applied for the Wildlife Management Proficiency for his trapping and wildlife conservation efforts. He received a gold rating at the State Convention. Adam currently serves as student advisor in our FFA chapter and in high school, he has participated in football and baseball.
Nikki Erwin, daughter of Dan and Chris Erwin, has had SAE’s of Hampshire breeding sheep, improvement and market hogs. Nikki’s FFA experience’s has her involved in the Meats and General Livestock CDE’s, Jr. Fair board, Community Care day, attended FFA Camp, National FFA Convention and State FFA Convention. She has been involved in the Food For America, beef expo clean-up and has attended FFA Camp, national and state FFA conventions. Nikki because of her outstanding SAE project she was named the winner in the District Six sheep proficiency and was named as state finalist where she placed second.
Tyler Patton, son of Steve and Marcie Patton, had SAE’s that included improvement projects, job placement and market lambs. Tyler has attended FFA camp, FFA meetings, and both state and national convention. Tyler has participated in CDE’s of Farm Management, rural soils, and agronomy. In agronomy, he was a member of the state winning agronomy team and the team that placed second nationally. Tyler continued his pursuit of excellence by entering the Extemporaneous public speaking contest where he placed second in District six and top six at the State Finals. Tyler served as last years Vice President and will serve as the 2006-2007 North Union FFA President.
The State FFA Degree is the highest degree a member can receive through the State FFA Association. These seven members have worked long hours and have devoted their time to gain valuable skills that FFA has to offer, like personal growth, premier leadership, and career success. These members will now have the opportunity to try for the coveted American FFA degree. These students have become the 83rd, 84th, 85th and 86th members to receive the State FFA degree from the North Union FFA Chapter. |
