North Union FFA Members to receive American FFA Degree By Hannah Monroe North Union FFA Reporter Two North Union FFA members will receive the coveted and highest award an FFA member can achieve - the American FFA Degree.
Stephanie Overfield and Annette Rubeck will receive their degree at the 75th National FFA Convention in Louisville this week. The two individuals are the 20th and 21st NU FFA members in the history of the FFA program to receive the golden key of the American FFA Degree. To receive the American Degree, they received the State FFA Degree, earned or invested $7,500 from their Supervised Agricultural Experience Project and were actively involved at North Union as well as FFA.
Stephanie Overfield, the daughter of Dave and Yvonne Overfield, had SAE projects of market hogs, swine production and breeding sows, and job placement at Bobcat of Columbus. The North Union student exhibited her projects at the Union County Fair, Ohio State Fair and North American International Livestock Expo. In FFA she earned the Star Chapter Farmer Award, Chris Cunningham Award, Chapter Swine Proficiency Award, FFA Scholarship and was named District winner in the area of Ag Sales and Service for her work at Bobcat. Overfield has been involved in Public speaking (Creed and Prepared), Petting Zoo, Parliamentary Procedure, COLT Conference, State Convention and served as Chapter President in 2002. She is a member of the National Honor Society and actively involved in 4-H. Her involvement in agriculture continues through employment at Woodside Veterinary Clinic.
Annette Rubeck, the daughter of Larry and Nancy Rubeck, had SAE projects of market hogs and job placement at Second Chance Ranch and Woodside Veterinary Clinic. She has exhibited her projects at the Richwood Independent Fair where she earned a reserve championship in 2002. In the FFA program, Rubeck was Chapter Secretary and earned awards such as Chapter Star in Agri-business, FFA scholarship winner and was a State FFA Proficiency finalist in the area of Small Animal Care for her work at Woodside Veterinary Clinic. The North Union student also competed in the FFA Horst Contest where her 2002 team earned top honors in the State FFA Horse Contest. She attended FFA camp, State and National FFA Conventions and was an active member of the Parliamentary Procedure Team. Rubeck is continuing her career in agriculture be enrolling in the Ohio State University Pre-Vet program. |
