NU agronomy judging team places first at state contest By Autumn Bumgarner On March 28, the North Union FFA poultry, agronomy, horse and wildlife judging teams converged on the Ohio State fairgrounds for the state judging contests.
The NU agronomy team placed first out of 40 teams. Individuals placings were: Isaac Oman-second place, Robert Bevis-third, Matt Ross-fourth, Michelle Shepherd - fifth, Kyle Dresbeck - sixth and Billy Parrott tenth out of 156. The agronomy judging is a contest to identify twenty plants, twenty seeds, ten plant diseases and ten insects. You have a twenty-five question test with a team activity.
The wildlife team placed ninth out of 72. Individuals placing were James Anderson - 30, Cole Barry 47 and Megan Anderson 69 out of 289. The wildlife judging has a 50-question test about wildlife and fish management, mammal ID, game bird and equipment.
The NU team placed 12 out of sixty-six teams. Individuals placing in the event were Dalton Bradford - 33, Lindsey Pfeiffer - 40, Hillary Hall-65 and Logan Lowe - 144 out of 256 participants. The poultry judging is a contest to identify egg defects, carcasses, part identification, processed meats and live chickens for meat and egg production.
The NU horse judging team finished 36 out of 117 teams. Individuals placing at the event were Alicia Dysert - 36, Kelsey Grose - 115 and Caitlin Conrad - 367. The contest consists of one halter mare class, one halter gelding class, one hunter under saddle class, tack I.D., hay judging and a 50-question test, with a team activity. |
