FFA Members "Lead out Loud" at 82' National FFA Convention By Autumn Bumgarner The National FFA Convention was held October 21st to 24th in Indianapolis, Indiana. The annual event was attended by more than 55,000 FFA members and guests. North Union FFA was represented by members Kenzie Johnston, Emily Peterman, Kara Furrow, Kirby Riffle, Mikenzie Price, Kelsey Regula, Caitlin Conrad, Morgan Deel, Lindsey Pfieffer, Tyne Powers, Kyle Chapman, Deryk, Van Sickle, Nick Lance, Kyle Dresback, Sam Bevis, Joe Arledge, and Dalton Bradford. The theme of this year's convention was "Lead Out Loud."
Members were challenged to be proud of their passion for agriculture and be willing to share it with others. This theme encouraged the FFA members to be willing to take risks, set goals and provide community service as an FFA member. National FFA Convention provided multiple opportunities for members who attended. North Union FFA members capitalized on those opportunities while in Indianapolis. North Union FFA participated in leadership workshops, award sessions, a career show and tours. In the leadership sessions, members heard from speakers including Mike Rowe, from the television show "Dirty Jobs," and motivational speakers Harvey Alston and Josh Sundquist. The members got to witness North Union's first ever National FFA Proficiency award winner, Jacci Erwin and watched four graduate FFA members receive the highest award the National FFA can offer, the American FFA degree. The FFA members participated in several business and industry tours in the Indianapolis area. Tour sites included: Becks Hybrids and an Apple Creek Family Organic Dairy Farm. These tours allowed members to see work experience and agricultural business. Members were also able to attend a Toby Keith concert. |
